Hello HR Email Ring,
If you or someone you know is waiting to get PHR/SPHR certified or maintain recertification hours until the economy gets better, be forewarned.
As of 2011 the eligibility requirements for taking the PHR and SPHR are becoming more stringent. Here is the language from the HRCI.org website. There is also another kicker. If you are certified and let it lapse AND you don't meet the new eligibility requirements, you are up a creek. My advice, invest in yourself, get certified now and keep those recert hours up.
