OSHA 300A Summary

The month of February 2007 is underway and here is a reminder that your OSHA 300A Summary (300-A is the Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses) must be posted on February 1st and remain posted until May 1st 2007. Remember that this summary needs to be posted on the Company’s Safety Bulletin Board, (see WAC 296-800-19005). Those of you having large operations or multiple work sites might consider posting several years’ summaries to indicate whether incidence of recordable Injuries/Illnesses are: 1) decreasing, 2) not changing or 3) increasing. This summary is required to be certified as complete and accurate by the Company representative responsible for maintaining your OSHA 300 Log.

You may not have to maintain formal Injury/Illness logs if your Company did not have more than 10 employees in the past year, at any time, or if your business is low hazard retail, service, finance, insurance or real estate. Please see Table #1 in WAC 296-27-00105 for a complete list of exemptions.

You must maintain your OSHA 300 for a minimum of five (5) years but it is strongly recommended that you keep these records indefinitely. Here is a downloadable pdf of the Chapter 296-27 WAC Recordkeeping and Reporting rules.

While you do not have to use the OSHA Record keeping system make sure that you receive written approval from OSHA or your State Program for any other record keeping system.
